Steven Peters

Lead singer of CIRCLESiGHT

Why did you decide to become a musician?

Since I was a child I had a deep desire to play the guitar and sing. Despite my love for music my original dream was to be a fighter pilot and an engineer. Over time music wrestled me to the ground, it was as if I didn’t have a choice but to be a musician.  As an artist I found that I could communicate most authentically when I was signing.  This passion was never a hobby for me, it was more of a duty. I knew that art could inspire people and bring hope and love to those around me. I became a musician because I wanted to write music that would help change the world.

Did you face any obstacles along the way?

My journey has always had obstacles, and it probably always will. In the early years they included: the majority of my family not supporting my decision to become a musician, almost living on the street, having no formal music education while trying to develop both a band and a business. I did not have a road map telling me how to “make it”. For the majority of my life I was teased because I could not sing or play the guitar very well. That said, I always knew that being a musician is what I was meant to do. I never quit and I never will.

How did you find the drive to keep going?

A quote comes to mind which I read while in school, “If not me, who? If not now, when?” There isn’t enough time in our lives time to ask, “What if?”. When I look back at the end of my life, I want to know that I did everything I could to inspire others.  My drive was motivated by the need to help those around me. You can’t loose your drive when peoples lives are at stake.

What does CIRCLESiGHT mean?

Simply put, CIRCLESiGHT means, “We’ll see”.  The idea that the “circle” is the earth and “sight” being “vision”. The whole earth will see. Our music is the most vulnerable and honest essence of who we are as a band. We polish it up and serve it on a platter for you to take in. We hope that it settles well with you bringing you both comfort and hope. There are so many subjects to create songs about. We like to write the stories, the emotions, the struggles, the hopes and the dreams of those around us and wrap them in melody.
